EVENING – LECTURE
Media & Telecom Convergence
Evening lecture by Messrs. Dirk Steel (Siemens) and Karl Cuveele (Belgacom)
On March 8, 2007, Media & Telecom Convergence as exemplified in Digital TV was the focus of two lectures followed by demo's. The session drew a crowd of more than 70 to the Belgacom Towers, venue of the event.
After an introduction by Mr. Wim Demeyere, Belgacom representative in FITCE.BE 's board, Mr. Karl Cuveele, COO Belgacom TV, gave an overview of the current status and some of the challenges of the revolutionary undertaking that the TV business represents for a telecom operator. Belgacom TV was successfully launched in 2005 and lives up to its high expectations.

Mr. Dirk Steel, CTO Siemens Networks nv, then engaged in a reflection on the many novelties that we can still expect in the area of TV. In his speech, titled 'From Web 2.0 towards TV 2.0 or 3.0', he emphasised the many possibilities for Interactivity, well beyond intelligent zapping, offered by Digital TV. Ideas commonly associated with Web 2.0 were projected onto the TV-medium.
Bridges towards Mobile TV and IMS were illustrated.

To get a look at the real goods, the audience moved to the Belgacom demo area for demonstrations of soon to be launched new features of Belgacom TV and Mobile TV.

The evening ended with a networking reception graciously offered by Belgacom.
