Hong SUN elected “FITCE.be YOUNG ICT PERSONALITY 2008”
Thursday evening April 17 the finals of the FITCE.be YOUNG ICT PERSONALITY 2008 award took place, hosted by Agoria-ICT the Sector Federation of the Belgian ICT industry.
Three finalists - top of the crop of the pre-selections - presented their views and ideas to an audience of professionals and leaders of the industry on the theme for the competition: The Media and Communications Industry anno 2015.
Hong SUN, PhD student of the University of Antwerp PATS group and researcher for the IBBT (Interdisciplinary institute for Broad Band Technology) was awarded the first prize - 1.000 EUR in cash - and will also be a speaker in the London FITCE Congress.

Hong SUN presented his view on how to provide a seamless integration of human power and assistive devices to help independent living of the elder generation which must lead to online "mutual assistance communities" to provide the elder people with longer, better and more active lives. In such a community, social connections will be enhanced, dependence on social resources will be reduced and the elder people are expected to have a more active attitude.

Runners up for the title, Raf Meersman (left) - CTO at COMSOF- and Wouter Haerick (3rd from left) - COO/CTO at SEBECO and PhD student were awarded the second and third prize.
Raf Meersman highlighted the challenges to overcome the growing need for bandwidth is his presentation entitled "Broadband Access Networks in 2033 : Highway to hell or Stairway to heaven".

Wouter Haerick explained in his presentation entitled "Converged Networks - A pitfall for Telco’s ?" how the mobile phone number or MSISDN can become a key competitive driver for new global B2C services.

The Jury, presided by Mr Eric Van Heesvelde – BIPT-IBPT ( the Belgian Regulator) - stressed that they had a very difficult task to choose amongst the candidates, a wealth of talented and motivated people.
Other members of the Jury were Prof Jos Dumortier - ICRI KU Leuven, Prof Guy Vandenbosch - ESAT KU Leuven, Mr Frank Robben – SMALS - Crossroads Bank for Social Security, Mr Dominique Deckmyn - Editor in Chief IT Professional and Mr Christian Vanhuffel - Director AGORIA-ICT, the sector Federation supporting this contest.
The evening closed with a traditional networking reception ……
